Not a difficult excursion, enchanting in the area of Val d'Inferno, beautiful view on the climb to Poggio Roncaccio and in the last section along the crests.
From the Moscheta Abbey (569 m.a.s.l.) we take the n. 713 trail and reach Mulino del Veccione (540 m.a.s.l.) where the route opens up onto the open wilderness of the Val d’Inferno (Hell's Vale). Moving along the Veccione River gorge we next meet trail n. 711 which moves along the Rovigo river. After crossing the river, the trail climbs to Casetta di Tiara.
Here, at the fork, we move right until we reach a saddle and a wider trail that leads just under the top of Poggio Roncaccio (967 m.a.s.l.).
Moving south east on trail 701, we reach the crest and, once past Faina (980 m.a.s.l), Monte della Colonna (1110 m.a.s.l), Poggio Altello (1163 m.a.s.l) and finally Passo della Sambuca (1061 m.a.s.l).
The road moves down to Provincial road 477 for roughly a kilometre in the direction of Palazzuolo sul Senio, and then onto a dirt road that leads directly to Passo dei Ronchi di Berna (1103 m.a.s.l). Once on trail n. 505, the road dips down to the open fields of "Frassinello", continuing to climb and fall until we reach the peak.
Bypassing trail n. 531, we continue right (south-west) along the ridge and just under the top of Monte Faggeta (1144 m.a.s.l.). Moving along trail n. 505 and then onto n.505/A we reach Casaglia (754 m.a.s.l.).
SUGGESTED ROUTE FOR MTB
From Moscheta we take the road that leads briefly to Osteto, abandon it almost immediately rising left along a wide dirt road. This road easily takes us to the forest trail that runs along the crest (trail n. 00). We move left here and reach provincial road n. 477. Once on the tarmac we turn left and continue on until we reach the Sambuca Pass where the road connects back to the Main Ring.
