Vespignano - Vicchio
T
The Home of Giotto is certainly one of the most interesting stops on a trip to Vicchio.
Situated on the enchanting hill of Vespignano below the church of San Martino, it was an ancient and sober construction dating back to medieval times, which has undergone more than one alteration over the course of time.
There have been many renovations and studies, from which it has been ascertained that the small building was an appendix of a larger stately home, built as an extension of the same.
On the ground floor, visitors can enjoy a video on the figure of the artist, while on the upper floor there are two rooms used for exhibitions and educational workshops (the colour room).
This is the true birthplace of Giotto di Bondone (ca. 1267 - 1337), who was born into a peasant family and became the genius artist who operated one of the greatest figurative revolutions in history, with which he influenced the entire world in the pre-Renaissance period.
