The alpine shelter of Castellonchio is located at 591 metres on sea-level inside the Giogo-Casaglia government property. It is easily reachable by foot in about 30 minutes from the small center of Risolaia near Grezzano, walking through the CAI 38 path. It allows to discover one of the most interesting natural environment of our Apennines. If you keep on walking along this path, you can reach another panoramic path, the CAI 00 one, and ,from it, the whole complex of paths of the crest.
The building is essential, practical and comfortable and has the free use of a refectory for about 60 people, a kitchen equipped with wood stove and fireplaces, a big living room obtained from an old barn, toilet block, showers endowed with hot water (produced by solar panels), other rooms for activities in case of rain and an efficient central firewood heating system.
Near the shelter there are open spaces for meetings, games and conversations beneath age-old trees.
Through a striking path you can reach in 15 minutes the Casa d’Erci Country Culture museum.
The shelter is open all the year round on advance booking.
