Mugello is an ideal area for sport fishing, thanks to its lakes, rivers, and streams set in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. The landscape is stunning, and the waters are home to various fish species such as trout, carp, pike, and perch.
One of the most popular spots is Lake Bilancino, easily accessible and well-equipped to welcome anglers of all levels. Several fishing techniques can be practiced in the Mugello area:
- fly fishing
- spinning
- float fishing (bolognese)
- carp fishing
The territory is well organized, with fishing zones managed by local associations that promote events, competitions, and educational activities. Some facilities also offer equipment rental and experienced fishing guides.
Fishing here becomes an activity suitable for everyone – from seasoned anglers to beginners and families with children. It’s not just a sport, but also a chance to relax and connect with nature.
Mugello combines the passion for fishing with the discovery of an authentic region, just a short drive from Florence.

NO-KILL FISHING ZONES
In recent years, to protect local fish populations, designated “no-kill” zones have been established in certain streams, rivers, and lakes.
In these areas, all caught fish must be released immediately. Signs clearly mark these zones.
In the Mugello area, two Special Regulation Zones (ZRS) are managed by the Florence section of FIPSAS.
Fishing is strictly no-kill and requires a valid fishing license and access permit (see individual regulations).
