Palazzuolo, a view of Palazzo dei Capitani

In 2018 Palazzuolo sul Senio has been included among the "I Borghi più belli d'Italia", it means the list of the amazing small Italian towns. The strongly Medieval urban structure dates back to the 13th century when the noblemen of these lands, the Ubaldini, had to relinquish their hold in favour of the Florentine Republic and therefore the Medici rule.

Palazzuolo is ideal for nature lovers: trekking, mountain bike, road bikes, horseback riding.

Palazzo dei Capitani, built in the 14th century, today houses the Museo Archeologico Alto Mugello and the Museo delle Genti di Montagna.

Nowadays, a new project of contemporary art stands in the historical centre: E50035

An impressive fountain stands just below the monumental steps that lead to SS. Carlo and Antonio Church. Nearby we find the 15th century Santuario della Madonna delle Nevi in Quadalto and the Susinana Abbey with its 12th century church, which is today a farm residence.

Take a walk or cycle to the ancient Lozzole fortress (the church was recently perfectly restored) and to Campergozzole (quaint hamlet of intense beauty) along the ancient roads that lead to Colla di Casaglia.

 Art and faith

In the suggestive historical centre we find the 17th century St. Antonio Church, with a beautiful three arch portico is decorated with 17th century stucco adornments. Tel.+39 055 8046014

On the road to the Passo della Colla, we find Quadalto and St. Maria della Neve Sanctuary, with a vast sweeping portico, and a valued image of the Madonna in the style of Botticelli on the high altar. In the choir chamber, which stands behind precious wrought iron gates by Dino Chini, are two precious Baroque style andirons and a charming 18th century organ. Both the convent, built in 1744, and the ancient Quadalto mill, now occupied by guest rooms, stand near the church. Tel. +39 055 8046072
The ancient St. Stefano Church, restructured at the beginning of the 20th century also offers a suggestive sight. Numerous precious paintings, sculptures, sacred ornaments and vestments from the abandoned churches of the territory are held in the presbytery. The apse and the side chapels are rich with floral decorations created by Dino Chini in 1945. Tel. +39 055 8046014
Nearby we can admire Susinana Abbey, once the property of the Vallombrosian monks, now a farm estate with an ancient church that has recently been restored. Here we find the Medieval Misileo  Parish  Church  which includes a crypt and a Romanesque bell tower. Tel +39 055 8046014
