In Mugello you can discover water adventures in a truly unique way, trying activities such as rafting, kayaking and SUP on the Sieve River and on Lake Bilancino. Thanks to the “Sentieri Blu” map, these water routes are connected with the wider network of hiking trails, creating a complete system that allows you to explore the area from different perspectives.
The river levels are constantly monitored through gauging stations, which provide up-to-date information on when the waters are safe and accessible for navigation. Each section of the rivers is classified according to the international whitewater (WW) scale, ranging from grade I, perfect for beginners, up to grade VI, which is reserved for the most experienced and adventurous.
The Sieve River offers routes of easy to medium difficulty, ideal for those who want to combine fun with safety, while Lake Bilancino is the perfect place for more relaxing experiences such as kayaking, SUP or even swimming in its calm waters. Some tributaries, like the Comano, present more challenging rapids up to grade III, whereas the Santerno and Lamone rivers provide breathtaking landscapes but require greater skill and caution, with rapids that can reach grade IV.
Although outside the Mugello area, the Arno River is also included in the itineraries for its interesting sections, some easier and suitable for tourism, others more dynamic and exciting. Since river conditions can change quickly, preparation, awareness and a good knowledge of the environment are always essential.
To enjoy these experiences in complete safety, it is possible to rely on T-Rafting, an association based in Florence that organizes guided activities suitable for different levels of expertise or contact Bahia Cafè to plan your experience on Lake Bilancino.
