The documentary exhibition dedicated to SOCIALISM AND SOCIALISTS
The exhibition is organised by the Pier Giuseppe Sozzi Association for the study of political and cultural movements in Firenzuola (FI) with the collaboration of the Pro Loco di
Scarperia and with the patronage of the Municipalities of Scarperia and San Piero and of Firenzuola and with the contribution of the Region of Tuscany.
The aim of the exhibition is to re-propose and rediscover a tradition, that of socialism in its classist and reformist variants, which in recent decades has been forgotten and to some extent demonised.
A tradition that, on the contrary, represented the engine of democratisation, modernisation and the civil and social growth of Italy after the economic miracle. What we want to recount is how precisely the abandonment of this political culture (and of the democratic and progressive cultures that permeated the thirty-year period from the 1950s to the 1980s that also characterised our country) contributed to the crisis of the political system, of the party system, of democracy, of representation. Ours is meant to be an attempt to bring back to the present ideas, aspirations, projects, reforms, which help us to discuss and shed light on the crisis of the present time.
All materials, documents, images, books, newspapers, publications presented or used in the exhibition come from the Association's library and archive.
The exhibition - which will remain open until 18 May 2025 - will be opened on Saturday 12 April at 6 p.m. and will be introduced by a debate in which the following will participate
- Marta CAPPELLI, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Scarperia and San Piero
- Prof. Valdo SPINI, President of the Fondazione Circolo Fratelli Rosselli
- Prof. Bruno BECCHI, historian and scholar of socialist movements
- Marco SOZZI, President of the Pier Giuseppe Sozzi Association
