Men and women who animated the squares and the countryside, doing their daily chores or participating in epoch-making events.
The new year opens at the Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia with an exhibition of documents from the historical archives entitled ‘Genti del Mugello. Popoli e persone dall'Archivio del Vicariato' (Peoples and People from the Vicariate Archives), with the aim of introducing some of the people of Mugello of the past, fellow citizens of the times of the Grand Duchy, presences in the villages and towns of the valley.
The inauguration of the exhibition will be held on Friday 31 January at 5 pm at the Palazzo dei Vicari in the presence of Marta Cappelli, councillor for culture of the Municipality of Scarperia and San Piero, and Francesco Calamai, archivist and curator of the exhibition.
For the occasion, in addition to the guided tour of the exhibition, the second notebook of the Pre-Unification Archives of Scarperia ‘Un anno in archivio’ will also be presented to the public, with the account and transcription of the documents enhanced during the events of 2024, such as ‘La notte degli archivi’ and ‘Fatti e misfatti di Barberino di Mugello’. Copies of the notebook will be distributed free of charge while stocks last.
