As part of the project ‘La Fortezza Abitata’ (The Inhabited Fortress), a guided walk around the paths of the San Martino Fortress will be held on Saturday 30 November. The initiatives to enhance the Medici monument continue with this walk along the paths surrounding it, led by Arch. Serena Acciai, the project coordinator. With no need for reservations, the meeting point is set for 09:30 in front of Villa Adami, to then set off together along the uphill path that leads under the mighty walls of the Fortress where, at the end of the visit, a snack will be offered by the Proloco.
30 November is not a random date, that of 30 November, which marks Tuscan Day, wanted by our Region to remember its roots of peace and justice and, first in the world, the abolition of capital punishment by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, on 30 November 1786. The Renaissance garrison that dominates our territory is indeed very rich in history and memory, starting with Cosimo I dei Medici, another Grand Duke known for his innovative ideas, who had it built in 1569, following the most modern canons of defensive architecture of the time. The excursion will be an opportunity to learn more, discovering little-known anecdotes and satisfying the various curiosities that the external view of the artefact may arouse. The excursion, including a snack, will be free of charge, will last about two hours, and requires comfortable clothing and hiking shoes.
