New Year of the Annunciation with the Camerata de' Bardi
Convivio di Arti in the Pieve di Sant'AgataFriday, April 1, 2022, at 21.00, in the Pieve di Sant'Agata (Via delle Pieve 3), the Camerata de' Bardi Cultural Association celebrates the Florentine anniversary of the New Year, with the participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany.
Title of the evening "New Year’s Eve of the Annunciation - Convivio di Arti nella Pieve di Sant'Agata". The Camerata de' Bardi recalls that Tuscan custom of the calendar year that, until 1749, began on March 25, the day on which the Catholic Church had placed the Feast of the Annunciation, corresponding to the ninth month before Christmas, that is, before the birth of Jesus. In 1582 came into force the Gregorian calendar that set the beginning of the year to 1 January. But Tuscany continued to consider March 25 as its own New Year. This happened until November 1749, when the Grand Duke Francesco III of Lorraine issued a decree fixing, also for Tuscany, the 1st of January as the initial date of the calendar year, conforming to what has been in force for centuries in the rest of Italy.
Don Antonio Cigna will open the evening with institutional greetings, and then leave the floor to the Arts sisters. Architecture, painting and music will unite in Dante’s Convivio di saperi to enhance the New Year’s Eve of the Year and the territory of Mugello that is linked to this anniversary.
Prof.ssa Carla Giuseppina Romby, Professor of History of Architecture at the University of Florence, will guide us to discover the internal and external architectural structure of the Pieve Santagatese, one of the most beautiful and historically significant Churches of Mugello.
For the painting, Prof.ssa Lia Brunori Cianti, historical official of the Art of the Superintendence of Fine Arts and Landscape of Florence, will highlight the works of the workshop of Cristofano Allori, the "Angelo annunziante" and the "Virgin annunziata".
For the musical part the Ensemble Camerata de' Bardi will accompany the voice of the soprano Sumiko Okawa in the music related to the Virgin and the Annuciazione authors Vincenzo Galilei, father of the famous astronomer, Giulio Caccini, Alessandro Scarlatti, Giuseppe Verdi, Alberto Nepomuceno.
