Historical-naturalistic circuit on the traces of the old railway line along the Faentina
One of Mugello's many side valleys, it encloses an overpoweringly wild environment and at the same time shows us the signs left by man. The Faentina railway still runs through this valley now with modern diesel trains, but once with noisy steam locomotives.
During the hike we will climb through the lush forest to the abandoned Fornello station from the 1960s. It will be possible to admire engineering works from the late 19th century, dating back to the construction of the Faentina railway, which now blend in with the nature that has been taking over these areas for years abandoned.
Even more fascinating are the stories that have followed one another in these places, first the people who inhabited these mountains, then the travellers of the early 20th century, and finally the stories linked to the Second World War, especially those related to the partisan struggle. Finally, we will enjoy this fantastic natural environment, stopping on the banks of the Muccione stream, with its clear, cool waters.
