AUGUST IN A CEMETERY - To save it from abandonment even with the theater, literature and good food.
At 6 p.m. Maurizio Maggiani talks with Massimo Cirri in Parole sulla memoria.
Maggiani, journalist and writer, has won the Strega, Viareggio and Campiello prizes, among others.
His latest book is La memoria e la lotta. Intimate Calendar of the Republic (Feltrinelli 2024).
At 8.30 p.m. Letture al Tramonto (Readings at Sunset) by Mirko Artuso with the Teatro del Pane.Artuso, an actor, director and writer, will conduct a read aloud workshop on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 - again in the cemetery - that is sold out. The students will be the protagonists of the readings.
At 7 p.m. there will be a packed snack prepared by the participants themselves. Maurizio Maggiani has turned his fee into light red wine to offer to the public.
Parking near the cemetery is not easy. A shuttle service will make it possible to reach it from Piazza del Mulino in Palazzuolo sul Senio starting at 17.15. It will be provided free of charge, as is tradition, by a group of doctors from the National Health Service - a urologist, an infectivologist, a gynaecologist and one specialising in hygiene and preventive medicine - who will also be available, on the short journey, to provide informal but scientifically sound individual consultations.
The event is part of Versanti. Travelling reading festival of the Apennines.
The event is free of charge. An offering for the restoration of the cemetery is welcome.
