The Bilancino site was discovered in August 1990 during an archaeological reconnaissance by the Scarperia archaeological group, carried out during the works for the construction of the artificial reservoir. The first discoveries immediately made it clear the importance of the archaeological site which was attributed to the Gravettian period based on the morphology of the chipped stone tools. The verification excavation was carried out by the volunteers of the group starting from 1992, subsequently from 1994 and until 1996 the excavation was carried out by the Archaeological Superintendence for Tuscany in collaboration with I.I.P.P of Florence allowing the collection of over 40,000 finds dating back to approximately 30,000 years does. The panels and photos on display illustrate the excavation carried out 30 years ago and the related research.
