International contemporary fiber art project

The project "A thread between past and future" dedicated to the textile arts, promoted by the Penelope Cultural Association and the Municipality of Barberino di Mugello in collaboration with the Padre Ernesto Balducci Municipal Library, financed by the European Cultural Foundation of Amsterdam and by Fondazione Cariplo per l'Italia, for The Europe Challenge 2024 for which 55 European libraries and local communities were selected and supported.
To respond to the challenge of preserving and at the same time innovating the textile arts, tradition and knowledge still active among the women of the local community, also involving a wider public and other generations, the Barberino project includes interventions of international contemporary Fiber and Textile Art to which two major initiatives will be dedicated.

Paraphrasing the famous phrase pronounced by Gaius Titus in the Roman Senate and which has now become a very popular proverb, SCRIPTA VOLANT is one of the three sections into which this international project conceived for Barberino di Mugello is divided and which has its exhibition center in its Library. Six international contemporary artists - Cenzo Cocca, Chen Li, Rana Feghali, Florencia Martinez, Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Perego, Yukoh Tsukamoto - of different origins, generations and backgrounds have worked on as many works, declining text and weaving, literature and fiber art in a a plot that demonstrates how writing is (until today) a vehicle for ferrying ideas, thoughts and emotions beyond spatial and temporal limits, linking humanity through a continuous thread to its history and its stories, to its multiple identities, to The evolution of individuals within communities and societies in a constant transformation.

The entire project, curated by Barbara Pavan, is dedicated to the power of the word to create fantastic universes and possible or hypothetical realities in which to immerse oneself through reading and, by extension, to the evolution and contamination of this narrative in contemporary art. The intent is also to highlight the relationship between the narrative construction and the artistic practice of fiber/textile art as well as the figure - common to Writing and Art - of tools for understanding the world around us and for exploring and imagining new territories , ideas, reflections, nuances beyond the perimeter of what is already known. Both represent elements of individual and collective growth of human beings and testimony to the evolution of individuals, communities and their time.

The exhibition will be open to the public until Saturday 13 July, during the opening hours of the municipal library (with extraordinary opening on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June). It will be possible to book a group guided tour by contacting the Library.

Time schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 2.30pm-6.30pm | Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 9.00-13.00
