In Sant'Agata presentation of the restoration of a nineteenth-century fresco and concert by the romantic plectrum quartet "Carlo Munier"

On Sunday 9 June in the parish church of Sant'Agata, organized by the Parish and the Association Mus.S.A. - Museums of Sant'Agata, the restoration of the fresco by Luigi Ademollo depicting the Resurrection painted in the left apsidal chapel and which is part of a homogeneous cycle that the well-known artist, active in prestigious venues, painted around 1820 in the apse area celebrating the episodes of the Passion of Christ.
The fresco in question had been seriously damaged by copious infiltrations of rain water which had led to the definitive loss of the upper left part of the painting and the proliferation of widespread washouts, fractures and damage to other portions of it.
The indispensable intervention stopped the ongoing degenerative process and recovered the stability of the pictorial surface, also allowing it to regain its readability, significantly altered by obfuscation and alterations.
The demanding restoration was carried out by the company Valentini Restauri of Daniela and Stefania Valentini under the direction of Lia Brunori and the High Supervision of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Florence, Pistoia and Prato in the person of its area official Jennifer Celani . The possibility of the intervention is due to the decisive contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation and the generous availability of the company Ariete S.r.l.

The presentation will take place at 6.00 pm in the Pieve di Sant'Agata and on this occasion the Romantic plectrum quartet “Carlo Munier” will perform for the first time in Mugello, made up of two mandolins (Andrea Benucci, first mandolin and Antonella Vezzani second mandolin), mandola (Luca Becorpi) and guitar (Antonio Scaramuzzino). The Quartet, founded in 2017 by mº Andrea Benucci, is a classical formation, rather unusual today but very widespread in the period from the end of the 1800s to the first decades of the 1900s. During this period, defined as "the golden age of the mandolin ”, this instrument was very widespread both at a popular and classical music level, not only in Naples, as is commonly thought, but also in other Italian cities, first of all Florence. The Quartet boasts prestigious concert appearances and also deals with the research of mandolin sources, with particular attention to the Tuscan ones and the tradition of Florentine plectrum lutherie.
