The guided tours connecting the Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia to the places in the Mugello territory beloved by the Medici Family are back!
This time we're heading to Borgo San Lorenzo, specifically to the Olmi area.
What's on the agenda?
Two guided tours including the Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia with the exhibition "The Medici: People of Mugello. Family Portraits from the Uffizi Galleries" and the Church of Santa Maria in Olmi, which will open exceptionally for this occasion. Visitors will be accompanied by Professor G. Carla Romby and Doctor Benedetta Chiocci.
Why specifically the Church of Olmi?
Of the four portraits of the noble spouses featured in the Scarperia exhibition, the one of Bianca Cappello, a work by Alessandro Allori and his workshop, represented a true return to Mugello, as it is a fresco originating from the Church of Santa Maria in Olmi in Borgo San Lorenzo, detached in 1871 to be delivered to the Florentine galleries; furthermore, this portrait is closely related to Bianca Cappello's pilgrimages to the churches of Mugello, especially to Santa Maria in Olmi, where she prayed to the image of Mary's pregnancy in hopes of giving an heir to Francesco I.
The appointments are on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 3:00 PM and Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 AM. Meeting point and departure with the guided tour at the exhibition in the Palazzo dei Vicari and then independent movement for the guided tour in Olmi. The cost per person is 10 euros and part of the proceeds will be donated to the Parish of Olmi.
