The fossil volcanoes of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines
A unique territory, suspended between the ridges of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, which does not share its appearance. The valley of Firenzuola opens up before the eyes of walkers like a huge amphitheater dominated by the volcanic buttresses of Sasso di Castro, Monte Beni, and Monte Oggioli. From these peaks, the panorama stretches from the Florentine plain, Monte Falterona, to the Romagna plain and the Adriatic coast.
During the excursion, we will climb to the summits of Sasso di Castro and Monte Beni, getting to know the peculiar rocky formation characterized by the presence of ophiolitic outcrops, called serpentine. We will traverse woods and clearings typical of magmatic rocks, learn about the recent history of methane extraction in these areas, and the ancient history that tells us about pilgrims and soldiers of the Roman Empire who crossed these ridges, the main communication route between the south and north of our peninsula.

- Food and drinks: Packed lunch and sufficient water (at least 1 liter)
- Mandatory equipment: hiking shoes, clothing suitable for the season and appropriate for wind
- Recommended equipment: trekking poles.
- Registration fee: €20.00 for adults and €10.00 for children. Those who are not yet members of L’Erba Canta must subscribe to the membership card for €10.00 (adults only).

- Cancellation policy: The excursion will be confirmed on March 14th, upon receiving all confirmations and verifying suitable weather conditions for the day. The guides reserve the right to cancel the excursion if the weather conditions do not allow for a normal and pleasant day.
