On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet, the Corale Santa Cecilia 1909, in collaboration with Music Valley, is pleased to present a musical repertoire drawn from a particular historical period: the Middle Ages. The goal will be to evoke the musical dimension of reference for a man of "ancient Florence"; in other words, that richness of accents and harmonies by which our ancestor of the fourteenth century, Dante in the first place, could conceive himself as a vibrant part of the cosmic order. As Virgil guided Dante in his otherworldly pilgrimage, Thursday 23 December the historic Mugello choir together with the Music Valley music school intend to lead listeners on a journey through music and time: starting from the most ancient examples of Gregorian chant, through the singing experiments of the school of Notre Dame in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the steps that marked the transition from "monodic" singing (in which everyone sings one voice) to "polyphonic" (in which several voices sing) will be retraced simultaneously different melodies). In fact, during this difficult 2021 the project La Musica di Dante took shape, in direct continuity with the Singing in the Web initiative - also born from the collaboration between the Corale Santa Cecilia 1909 and the Municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo in 2020 focuses on Gregorian chant and musical paleography.
