In the heart of the Tuscan-Romagna, Florence, Bologna and Imola, 600 meters above sea level and surrounded by secular woods of chestnut, oak and beech trees, is the ancient Abbey of Vallombrosa Moscheta, founded in 1034 by San Giovanni Gualberto and now owned by the Region of Tuscany.
An oasis of peace and tranquility surrounded by streams, woods, wild valleys and rolling pastures, crossed by paths of various types and difficulty.
A magical place to spend both days in the company that to stay in direct contact with nature and history. Moscheta is to live throughout the year: in the spring riding in the flower pastures in summer to cool off in the clear streams, autumn gathering mushrooms and brown, but also quiet winter to follow animal tracks in the snow.
Within the architectural complex of the Abbey are the Museum of the historical landscape of the Apennines, the laboratory CIAF, the multifunctional rooms, the hut, the farmhouse, the restaurant and the handling.

L'area di Moscheta è oggetto di un proposta per un Parco Rurale del Paesaggio Appenninico, un progetto curato dal Prof. Mauro Agnoletti, illustrato in una pubblicazione edita da Pacini Editore e Comunità Montana del Mugello.
Moscheta è un angolo di particolare interesse dell’Appennino settentrionale e il paesaggio si presenta come elemento qualitativo di grande rilievo.

La proposta di Parco intende offrire una alternativa rispetto a più generici “itinerari naturalistici”, “strade del vino” ecc., cercando di recuperare e valorizzare l’identità culturale millenaria di una porzione limitata, ma significativa, del territorio appenninico non solo attraverso una oculata gestione, ma anche attraverso il restauro.
Il territorio di Moscheta appare particolarmente adeguato alla realizzazione di un progetto “pilota”, essendo un’area che per circa dieci secoli è stata oggetto di regolari attività agricole e forestali, testimoniate dalla presenza di una maglia poderale intorno alla omonima abbazia, posta nel territorio oggi gestito dall'Unione Montana dei Comuni del Mugello.
La zona del progetto è inoltre inclusa all’interno del Sito di Importanza Regionale n. 3 “Giogo-Colla di Casaglia” (IT5140004), un’area protetta che indica come elementi di criticità interni al sito proprio la cessazione delle attività agricole, la scomparsa dei pascoli e la riduzione dei castagneti da frutto. Non sono però presenti solo ordinamenti colturali tipici del sistema agro-silvo-pastorale, ma anche molti altri elementi del patrimonio culturale materiale quali fabbricati rurali, essiccatoi per le castagne, piazze carbonili, viabilità storica, alberi monumentali ecc.

La proposta del parco del paesaggio giunge alla fine di una approfondita fase di valutazione, che ha visto una prima fase di ricognizione del territorio toscano, valutando comparativamente le caratteristiche di diversi tipi di paesaggio a scala regionale (M. Agnoletti (a cura di), The conservation of cultural landscapes, Wallingford-New York, Cab International, 2006). Successivamente, in modo più analitico, si sono analizzate le componenti del paesaggio nel territorio di Moscheta e operate delle scelte per quanto riguarda gli obiettivi di qualità e quindi gli interventi di restauro.

Il progetto, presentato dall'allora Comunità Montana Mugello, ha vinto il premio “Città Ideale” in occasione della Biennale toscana del paesaggio che si è svolta alla Fortezza da Basso di Firenze nel 2008 nell’ambito della rassegna della pubblica amministrazione “Dire e Fare”.

É stata presentata nel 2014 la proposta di inserimento dei paesaggi silvo-pastorali di Moscheta nel Registro Nazionale del Paesaggio Rurale, di cui è responsabile l'Osservatorio Nazionale del Paesaggio Rurale.

The museum is set up in an ex-farmhouse situated on the bank of the torrent Erci in the regional agricultural forestry complex "Giogo - Casaglia". The place is characterized by its environmental and naturalistic qualities. A characteristic and substantial collection of documentary material on the old farming and country life in the Mugello Area is found here. The material is relevant to real farming activities such as cattle - raising, farming and working the land, harvesting and trashing works carried out in the cellars, in the granaries and in the mills. Particular interest is given to the works done in the house such as spinning and weaving, doing the washing in the kitchen, to handicrafts done by the farmers and to various trades of carpenters, cartwrights, coopers, shoemakers, blacksmiths and masons.
The reconstruction of the bedroom, the cellar, the kitchen together with the sections dedicated to works in the woods, to popular religious activities, to carts and other means of transport, to works made in wood, and to school, share-farming and photographic documents complete the expositive picture carried out with intent and evocative but above all with a vast and accurate documentation.

A reference point for fine palates with a passion for traditional dishes and local products. The specialties we can find here date back to ancient traditions of this rural, mountain community.
First dishes are all fresh homemade pasta dishes, and the meat, from the territory, is cooked using traditional recipes. In certain periods of the year, the restaurant prepares delicious mushroom dishes with prugnolo mushrooms, porcini mushrooms, white truffles, and local “marroni” chestnuts.
The sweets are all home-made and can be accompanied by select Italian and foreign wines.

This horse riding farm is home to 15 Aveglinese (Haflinger) horses. The expert guides provide private lessons, excursions on horseback for big and small, old and young, and overnight-stay cross-country trekking. The Haflinger is the perfect horse for any child to ride the first time on.

The structure, recently restored and furnished in a simple, comfortable way, is made up of different sized rooms that accommodate roughly 50 guests. It offers a relaxing stay immersed in nature, just off the thousand year-old Abbey.

It is suited for school trips, group holidays and families.
The agriturismo can accommodate up to 24 guests in 6 rooms (2-4 beds per room), all with private bathroom.
The retreat can accommodate 22 guests in 3 rooms (6 beds each) or 2 rooms (two beds each). Each room has an independent bathroom.
Inside the Abbey, there is also an apartment with kitchen facilities for four.
