Description

On a hilltop, gently sloping to the north of the Rio di Pallico, you can see the two old coloniche (farmhouses), part of the Romagnano del Colle estates, early possessions of the Giotto da Colle family. One of these two coloniche – recognizable by its ancient tower – was the largest in Romagnano and is where Bondone and Monna Ciuta lived and where Giotto was born. Birth place of names such as Cimabue e Beato Angelico, il Mugello reveals its unique beauty through its delightful valley of lusciously fertile planes and terraces. Here Giotto spent a large portion of his life, leaving behind a trail of magical charm. Soon after the railway crossing, turn right and continue toward Pilarciano. Looking over the ridge to your left you can see the large colonica which some historians consider to be the actual birth place of Giotto. Referred to as “Torre di Romagnano” in text books, this is thought to be the house where Giotto was born around 1266. With peaceful surroundings and lush vegetation, the tower dates back to beginning 1200. Despite the many natural catastrophes over the centuries and the intense bombings of the Great War, its structure and character remained unscathed, while neighboring houses underwent several substantial restorations and modifications. In 1970 Mr. Tullio Bacciotti purchased the property and performed a careful and difficult restoration, respecting its natural character and architectural features. Blessed with marvelous surroundings of beautifully landscaped gardens, olive groves and vineyards, Tullio’s estate also produces excellent vino da tavola and a first class olive oil, cultivated with farmer’s devotion. The estate is surrounded by lovely trails immersed in wooded groves, providing opportunities for physical activities, such as hiking, biking and horse-back riding. And of course, for the hot Tuscan summers, the property offers a full-size pool. The area of Il Mugello, where the property is located, offers added opportunities for entertainment, such as a car racing track, golf course, fishing or sailing at the lago di Bilancino. All within easy reach from the estate. Finally, in less than an hour drive one can reach the culture and art-rich cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa. To remind of their presence, the apartments are named after great artists as Cimabue, Giotto, Beato Angelico and Michelangelo. It is thanks to these illustrious artists that this area represents the cradle of Florentine art and history. The apartments of course offer every comfort and will delight even the most discerning of guests.
