The traditional ‘Marrone Festival’ events return to Antonio Berti Park
Music, markets, typical products and gastronomy for an October to experience
The marrone returns as the star of the Mugello autumn. And with it, the festival of the marrone is back in San Piero a Sieve, and this year, the Mugello festival dedicated to the king of autumn, closest to Florence, will be held on three Sundays. A chestnut that, as a top product the Mugello PGI, Mugellans, Florentines and all those who want to taste it, will find on their doorstep, reachable even by train. At San Piero a Sieve, on Sundays 13, 20 and 27 October, the Pro Loco, with the patronage of the Municipality of Scarperia and San Piero and the Metropolitan City of Florence and the collaboration of Reconquista, Locura, Misericordia di San Piero, Centro Socio Culturale Villa Adami, Consulta dei Genitori and Caritas Parrocchiale di San Piero, has decided to celebrate one of the most appreciated fruits of the autumn that has just begun.
So open on Sunday 13 October, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Antonio Berti Park will become the centre of markets, tastings, children's entertainment, shows and much more. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to taste burnt chestnuts and other chestnut-based dishes. There will also be a market of local farms with 0 km products (in addition to marrons, honey, apples, saffron, sweets, etc.) and tastings of local wines. From morning to evening, the event will be flanked, again at Berti Park, by the classic appointment of ‘Mercanzie in Piazza’, a customary rendezvous on the second Sunday in October, with handicrafts, second-hand goods, antiques, and works of one's own ingenuity on display.
At 12.30 p.m., the restaurant opens (for reservations, please call 05584487241 / 3336458002 / 3293445017) with a tasty autumn menu with polenta, penne, scamerita with chestnuts and grapes (a typical Mugello dish), mixed grill, castagnaccio and many other desserts and, specifically for vegetarians, a menu dedicated to them. Also on the first day, in the afternoon, from 2.30 p.m. children's entertainment with Michelangelo and Ilaria, from 3 p.m. ‘Si balla al Parco Berti’ with Luca Lux, and from 5 p.m. the Crazy Rock Ballet dance performances.
The days of 20 and 27 October, apart from ‘Mercanzie in Piazza’, will follow the same programme, with children's entertainment in the afternoon and a concert for the older ones (on the 20th with Altri Tempi, with music from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and on the 27th there will be dancing with Crazy Sound).
So, the last preparations are complete to welcome the people who, like every autumn, will arrive in San Piero to taste the good marron, but not only.
