Hiking

PDF Print Email

Mugello offers the traveller an uncontaminated environment in which to walk for days and days along country roads, bridle paths and trails. Although the Mugello Apennine does not present the lofty heights of the Alps it does offer quiet breathtaking landscapes in which to admire: tall beech forests lining mountain crests, age-old “marrone” chestnut woods, startlingly fresh streams, stretches of meadows where different deer graze, old stone barns, and ancient hermitages that rest on far away valleys. A stroll through Mugello allows the traveller to discover an unknown flower, a particularly colourful butterfly or an exceedingly large plant. It gives him the opportunity to hear the sounds of the forest and follow the beat of his own footsteps as he leaves behind him the stress of everyday life. There are numerous itineraries that a hiker can take: over thirty follow the SO.F.T (Sorgenti di Firenze Trekking) trails, which, in part, move along the famous G.E.A. (Grande Escursione Appenninica) trails and many are R.E.T. (Rete Escursionistica Toscana) trails. We suggest the trails that run through the Mount Giovi Cultural Park, the Casentinesi and Mount Falterona Forest National Park as well as the historical Via degli Dei.
